Furtwängler and Symphony No. 9

I’ve heard renditions of the 9 by other composers, but none quite come so close to the brilliance of this wartime rendition – performed on March 9, 1942, by Wilhelm Furtwängler and the Berliner Philharmoniker.

The ninth is always glorious, and this rendition, played in the shadow of a great war just makes it so much more intense. If you love this kind of music, this’ll be the best 80 odd minutes you’ll ever spend.
